What is hip labral tear?


The hip is a ball and socket joint.  A type of cartilage called the labrum surrounds the hip joint. Labrum helps to provide shock absorber and allows the hip to move. A tear in the the labrum can cause inflammation to the hip joint and causing pain to your hip movement.

Symptoms of hip labral tear


Symptoms includes:

  • Clicking sound in your hip
  • “Locking” of the hip
  • Limited range of hip movement
  • Some pain may be felt in the groin, buttock or lower back

Causes of hip labral tear


Hip labral tears are often caused by a sudden twisting. It can also occur as a result of an injury like running or a fall.
